![]() | What can I say....my web designer has just gone travelling for a year and we have a junior we designer starting next week. I run a marketing agency and I am in the deep s**t. I have made some text changes to my site today and checked my stats on statcounter. I was wondering why I hadnt had any business through my site for about 3 months.....now I know. On my searches like 'marketing agency derby' and many others we position in the top 3 on, when you click the link there are missing pages or pages from our old site. I know that you have to redirect these to the new pages, but I dont know how. I also need to know how to get the new relevant page where the old ne is being found. This is really bad for me and my business. I know very little about building sites, but I need to make the changes as soon as i can. Can someone give me a dummies guide?? As I said, I do a little on the site, like change text and move things around etc, so I am not a complete imbecile.....just a minor one. I would appreciate anyones help on this Thanks Dean http://www.grapevine-group.co.uk |

![]() | Do you have the tools that you need? an ftp agent program for one. Make a list of the bad links, and the corresponding correct links. grab the file, open it with notepad, search and find the problem links, make the corrections. Be careful, it is possible to make mistakes. Notepad can sometimes cause parsing errors, but works 99% of the time. If some pages are wrong, maybe you just need to rename the files and adjust the links accordingly. About anyone on this site could handle this for you, but can only give general advice without having the work in front of them. As a business owner myself, with many thousands of dollars of sales a month and customers expecting te be able to use our site easily, I have experienced bigger troubles than you face now, I know how it feels. Wait till your database gets corrupted or some mysterious php error crashes your site, then you'll know panic!

![]() | I still need help please I set up a .htaccess file. I called it .htaccess and placed it in the wwwroot directory I set up ithe following to redirects redirect 301 /full-marketing-support.html http://www.grapevine-group.co.uk/ful...marketing.html redirect 301 /individual-services/pr.html http://www.grapevine-group.co.uk/index.html the top lines are the old pages, and the latter part of each is the new pages I want it to go to. Apparenty, I should be able to test it by typing in the broken url. It doesnt seem to change. Does the spiders need to grab it again before I can do test it or am I doing anything wrong. Thanks Spenno |

![]() | I tried that. I also cleared the cache. The top level of my ftp has 3 domain folders. within my grapevine group folder is the www.root. inside is all the files and folders to the site. I am putting it in there. I took the .txt off the end so it is just.htaccess. Can you see anything wrong with this or what I have put above? Spenno |
