Default Contest - good for traffic?

Hello,

I run PokerDIY and am battling to convert Visitors to Users.
I need to offer some sort of incentive to sign up - has anyone run a contest to try and achieve this?

Any ideas what I could offer (something poker related?)

I suppose I could just offer a $100 prize to a random user who signs up each month. This would be $100 a month obviously, but it could help convert some visitors perhaps, or do you think they would not bother?

Personaly I think $100 a month is a bit too much. You could just spend that money on backling and building your PageRank. I think the idea of a competition is a good idea though.

Hmm - I have a PR5 and very good links... I am also getting some good traffic - 600 unique users a day, BUT I am not converting visitors into users!

You need to log in to make/find games or set up a league, and post on the Forum, but there are very few conversions...

Maybe $50 a month?

I was also thinking of sponsoring an online tournament - $100 prize but you have to sign up through PokerDIY....

thewebdevelopers is right. You can use the $100 to build your backlinks up and getting good traffic that way.

You say you get 600 visitors each day. How are you getting these? Perhaps you can concentrate on giving your users what they came for more effectively.

Hmm - I get them through being on page 1 of google for "Home Poker Leagues" and my aggressive advertising campaign. It's merely the conversion of the visitors to users.

What I don't understand is that all the game creation and leagues are behind the log on, so it's not even like I can improve this because they are not using it!

I have made step by step tour with screenshots to deomonstrate the functionality once logged in, but not many visitors convert..

at jaxdoug.com they buy a lottery ticket.
if it strikes, the prize is shared among all regular posters.

personally i'd go for a 1 in 10million shot at $60m rather than 100 measly bucks..
but that's just me.

hmm - if it strikes... half the fun can be the poker contest though (considering this is what the people browsing my site do)

Right - well I may as well try it

In an effort to convert visitors to users I am running a poker freeroll contest on PokerDIY for new users.

You can read more about it here

Does anyone have any advice about running a poker tourney online?

I'll let you know if my sign-ups increased (for a $100 prize that I can even sell as an advertisting spot)
