Cool Front Page or Dreamweaver

Front Page or Dreamweaver,

I'm just curios of what web editor people prefer to use.

"WYSIWYG" ("What you see is what you get") HTML editors.

I started with Front page 2000 in 2001,then when i was at tafe 2003
i learnt Dreamweaver 4 I started using 4: then MX and now I use 8.

I personally use Dreamweaver 8 for its more professional features to integrate with Fireworks and flash.I just like it, I find it easy once you know your way around, its got heaps more features then Front page.

Best features:

FrontPage 2000: Usability, familiar environment, text handling features, direct uploading (built-in FTP client), link and Web site management.

Dreamweaver 4: Advanced tools, CSS creation, layer and table conversion, Flash and Fireworks integration, interactive images, direct uploading(site management tool) and extensions.Dreamweaver lets you zoom in on or out from a document so that you can check the pixel accuracy of graphics.

What one do you prefer Front page or Dreamweaver and why ?

If you use other editor ,what one and why?

Please share your experiences.

I specially vote on dreamweaver 8. I tried the frontpage 2000, 2003, but i found dreamwaver much better, more professional.

I find dreamweaver a little to cramped out. It has too many advanced features and very less workspace. If i had to choose, i'd choose Frontpage, it's simple and doesn't have all the extra effects to make the software look pretty.

Hi there,

I agree with kenni on the fact that Dreamweaver is just a nice looking software, but it is a good WYSIWYG editor as well. It has way too many toolbars everywhere and like kenni said, it doesn't give you enough room to work in, and I like to have plenty of workspace when making websites.

FrontPage is an excellent editor, it is good for professionals and amateur webmasters to use. It is simple and very user friendly, it has built in FTP, FrontPage Extensions. The only bad thing I would say about it is that it doesn't really support PHP enough, although I'm sure that will be added in the next releases.

I do however use both of the editors and I do prefer to edit PHP in Dreamweaver. The versions I have are "Macromedia Dreamweaver 8" and "Microsoft FrontPage 2003".

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

Cool Re: Front Page or Dreamweaver

Hi Kieran,
I found that there is the same amount of work space in both when you drop the properties bar in dreamweaver they both have the same space.

I have both "Macromedia Dreamweaver 8" and "Microsoft FrontPage 2003".
Its been a long time since I used Front page 2000/2003

I'll give front page one good praise thats its ability to view your site right there without having to open a browser.

I still prefer "Macromedia Dreamweaver 8" I have used it more and wont go back to front page.

I've never used either. Are there advantages in using software over hardcode?

Hi there,

If you can type HTML code etc. in a text editor, and you can type it while sticking to W3C standards, then that is the perfect way to build websites.

Although a WYSIWYG saves loads of time, and if you were a web designer you would not be able to meet time requirements with your customers.

Kieran Taylor.

Added a poll, be sure to vote

I voted neither. You get more control when you manually design a site.

Thanks for the poll.
Yes well I did design my complete site my self ,the interface was made in Photoshop CS and added rollover affects and sliced in image ready.
Then Exported to Dreamweaver for editing and making pages.
So you do need some type of html editor and be able to view as you add your contents.
I used Dreamweaver to make Picture slide shows for most my Gallery allso conecting with fireworks to produce each show.
Adobe and Dreamweaver rule the universe with web site designs.

Question Re: Front Page or Dreamweaver

G'morning!

We're using Front Page 2003, having just upgraded from an earlier version. We're putting together a photo-base Web Site and have several slide shows. The earlier version of Front Page would only take 9 pics per slide show. We were told by Microsoft that Front Page 2003 allows an UNLIMITED number of pics. So far, we're still unable to get more than 9 on each presentation, and we have to have this up and running by the end of the week.

I spent hours at the Front Page site and couldn't find anything helpful. Does anyone here know anything about the capability of FP 2003 re:slide shows?

I'm losing my religion here! (Well, almost.... )

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA - Jesse.

I have no experience with Frontpage. I always use dreamweaver. Current Version MX 2004. And My Vote is for DWMX. Coz i don't like the workspace of frontpage.

Thumbs up Re: Front Page or Dreamweaver

Thank you, Kirtan!

Dreamweaver is sounding better all the time. DH is the techy in the family, but these days I seem to be (despite myself) learning quickly. Man, you'd think at my age (50) school would be "out." I didn't even like it the first time around.

Love - Jesse.

Are these tutorials any good? The 6 hour DVD one for Dreamweaver, I mean? - Jesse.
