![]() | Hello, Using common-sense SEO tactics I have managed to get PokerDIY.com to a respectable PR 5. For certain keywords (Home poker leagues) I appear on page 1 of Google and I have google ads etc. I have submitted my site to many directories and have lots of backlinks - check out: http://www.iwebtool.com/www.pokerDIY.com On paper my site looks good - there is some growth on Alexa and it's getting good reviews (it's based on functionality and services, not content and advertising). But it's missing one thing.... traffic... I can't seem to generate good traffic despite all these links and page rank etc. I have paid money to www.submitfire.com to be listed on all directories (I am aware of FFA etc - I beleive if you pay peanuts you get kicked out the shop) - I have bought adverts on Adbrite etc. But I still don't have lots of traffic! (150 users a day maybe..) So I am now considering poker banner swaps with a 2:1 ration. It's going to soil my good looking site, but I need to increase traffic - all this page rank and backlinks mean nothing if no one is viewing it... Can anyone offer any advice on not increasing SEO or rank but increasing traffic on a home poker site? Thanks! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The best thing you could do is concentrate on more frequently searched and more popular keywords/phrases. You can do some research using keyword research tools like http://www.centralwebs.co.uk/keyword/index.php |

![]() | Thanks for that - I am doing selected key word targeting. With BannerSwaps (2:1 ratio) - do you think they are worth doing? I have put the banner up on my other sites and then my main site should get all the traffic. I don't mind if some of my less commercial sites display horrible banner ads, but I want to keep my main site clean. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with banner swaps... |

![]() | I think the effectiveness of banners has bottomed out and there's a possibility that banners are making a small comeback, now that people are growing more Adsense-blind. There are exchanges that offer better ratios...I'd go with a service that offers at least a 3:2 or 4:3 ratio. Another thing to watch out with banner exchanges is cheating. Check out the program to see how aggressively it goes after cheaters before joining it.

![]() | Yes, thanks - I have now found some poker-related swaps so it is slightly more targeted. What constitutes a "cheat" in BS? |

| Junior Member | cheat..when u use a traffic generator in inflate the views on a banner. like i do. i use www.autohits.dk to generat traffic on a page that has lots of banners from lots of networks. and instead of having false visitors on my site i get my banners shown on lots of other sites and maybe get good visitors. by the way. you need a great banner to catch somebody's attention. i haven't clicked a banner in ages |

That being said, I guess it's safe to assume that banner swaps don't work, they only give impressions that are false impressions faked as a means to gain more hits on another website. There are other, more ethical and honest ways to gain traffic to your site, and there are alot of people here at iwebtool that are willing to give advice on doing just that, or even help out if they can. | |

If you have extra banner space, I'd consider selling some .. I used to own a lil PR5 Bingo site, 3 word text links went for $75 per URL 3 month minimum. So while you're waiting for traffic, you can be makin' a few bux. As for the banner exchange spots, mostly crap. I wouldn't dirty up your site with them.... I recently sold my gambling sites, all of them, and a lot of others are doing the same.. do to the new law that was tacked onto port security... So the competition should be cut down a bit by that, in addition, keep plugging away, most of the folks I know that stayed in the industry say that business has nearly doubled as a result of the new law.. odd but hey, run with it heheh. Just a note, if you are in the US, you should definately watch the implications of that law, some online gambling law experts say that displaying banners of site's that are accepting US gamblers can be considered Aiding and Abetting.. There are ways to work within the law, but definately something to look into Good Luck! Cathy

| Member | Awesome! I pretty much had bar leagues locked down, but I sold, and the buyer seems to be just tearing all conent down, archiving forums, and tossing up a one page site with 3-4 banners.. you might try including that lol

| Newcomer | Yes I think banner swap sites are not that great anymore... Unless can swap for a top spot. Have you try using Traffic Exchange (TE) programs? Many do have a banner exchange for you to use. Specially testing out the effectiveness of your banners. BTW, most TE is free to set up.
