What's your take on static pages vs dynamic pages.

Does it make any difference?
Your thoughts and experiences please.

It makes no difference.
I included it as part of my SEO Myths blog post, And was backed up by Matt Cutts in a grab bag video.

The only thing to be careful of when using dynamic pages is don't use excesive parameters and don't use anything that looks like a session id. Apart from that google spider them and rank them like any other page.

would a website with restricted areas that require logins be penalized? I have designates some pages for members. I have articles as well but not sure if it's should be view publicly to attract more users/viewers or keep them behind logins? Any advice?

Eventually after much consideration, I think it's right that it makes no difference to PR.

And it is a confusing issue because if your familiar with invison boards they basically have the normal graphics view and a no graphical version called 'lofi'. Throughout the boards the pages are all duplicateed in both versions.
If you look around the web at any invision boards and look at it's PR the lofi version invaribly has a higher PR. Go look at any invison board at random, here is the offical board http://forums.invisionpower.com/ or the board I'm involved with http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/

And on all forums in from the above the static version is higher then dynamic version. So how can that be? Well I've be puzzling over that one for a few days.
It finally dawned on me, the normal version has all those links to usernames and topic totals and reply info, so all the PR on the graphical version is moving into the members profile when on the lofi-version it's not possible for the PR to leak into there.
So now happy that static and dynamic are the same from PR point of view.

They are nothing like the same from a SEO point of view....but that's for another day.
