Default Over Optimization?

I was wondering is there such a thing as over optimization? I've heard from other people that if you over optimize your page, you get penalized. So is it true? And if there is such a thing, how much optimization becomes too much?

No, lol

Now...if you dont know what you are doing, you could "optomize" when in fact you worsen the situation...but as far as over-optimizing, no, not possible

over-optimization... I don't think so.

The only related scenario I can see with something like that happening is if you don't want people to see your content. Other than that, no, it's impossible.

I dont think there is anything like over optimization. However, spamming is bad & illegal ways to get higher rankings.

Just simple optimization is enough.. If I were you I'll be more focus on my link popularity by gathering quality and huge amount of inbound links.

I know spamming, hidden text, kw stuffing and other black hat methods are.. well bad. I was just wondering if too much of a good thing (quality linking, on-page optimization) can go bad...

It's a weird concept, I'm having trouble grasping it and I'm also dubious if it's true. Thanks for the opinions guys

I think things like keyword stuffing, are for the most part ignored by the big search engines. Other methods can get you in trouble and banned, but if you just overpopulate your page with keywords it is likely to just not help you as opposed to hurt you.

I think it is always a good rule of thumb to make your web pages for your visitors and then tweak them for the search engines. Too many people do the opposite, and I do not think that is an effective long-term strategy.
