Default Why should I have users register?

Hello, I've got a question. Most of the sites I've looked at recently have it where I have to register or sign up before I do any like post in the forum or even view content. One even had me do that before signing the guestbook (I personally think that's a little too much). What I want to know is what is the purpose or point? And how can that benifit the owner of a sight?

Thank you for your input.

Hi there,

I agree on the fact that sometimes it is annoying to sign up for websites on the Internet in order to view or interact with the site's features. Although you have to take in hand that some people don't want their website being used and abused by random visitors.

Some webmasters do allow guests to post on forums although that qould make it extremely hard to tackle SPAM posts. They wouldn't be able to ban a specific user from the forum as they would be able to post as often as they wished.

As for signing up to sign a guestbook...that is a little over the top.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

On my forum it used to be possible to post with out registering, but i got attacked by lots of spam very quickly, this registration is really just tackling spam.

It only take 1 min to register.

Hi there,

You get what where all saying now, why you have to register?

Unfortunately SPAM is destroying people having fun on the net, and trust people enough to have guest posts. SPAMMER SPAMMING SPAM.

Kieran Taylor.

Wow, spam sucks. Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know it could get into forums so easily.

Just hooked up a new forum to my site, I'm hopint it works out well. Please check it. I'm having trouble getting some of the link text into a good looking color that doesn't blend into the background image I choose. Any idea's?
I'm also considering starting a new bog, it has nothing to do with my site but in this demension where I havve no life it works out all good. I'm considering calling it "the Adventures and Exploits of my Kitten".
