Default using a different search engine

How many of you guys use search engines other than Google, Yahoo or MSN? Just a curious thought as I've never saw anyone discuss anything other than the 3 mentioned. What's up with that?

Hi there,

Google is the only one for me. I use MSN and Yahoo! every now and again, although the only time I ever really use other search engines is when I am testing back links for my sites.

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

I only use other search engines - or rather meta search engines+specialized search engines. For instance, I get my RSS feeds from http://www.feedsforme.com, my photos from http://www.picsearch.com, my forum info from http://www.omgili.com/ and http://www.findinforums.com/. I actually found this place through findinforums.com. Probably would have found it eventually, but meh, I'm here now.

Its not quite true that meta searches get pretty much all of their data from the big three, it's much more varied than you think. I think that jux2 started - or is part of - a fad of searching Google, Yahoo and MSN simultaneously, but others like Search.com and Dogpile.com go further.

I wouldn't want to give the impression that I use Dogpile, I hate that engine, but they are using more search engines than the standard metasearch. I personally use search.com, which is the engine that currently works for me. When I feel like doing social bookmarking, I go to http://www.flipnsearch.comor http://www.gravee.com.

And that is, in a nutshell, the search engines I use.

I sometimes use http://www.dogpile.com.
Dogpile® is a metasearch engine that "fetches" results from Google, Yahoo!, Windows Live Search (formerly MSN Search), Ask.com, About.com, MIVA, LookSmart and several other popular search engines, including from audio and video content providers. Dogpile is a registered trademark of InfoSpace, Inc.

In 2005, Dogpile published a study about first page web search engine results overlap. The study showed 3% overlap between Google, Yahoo!, and Ask Jeeves. 85% of the results were unique to one of the three engines.

Dogpile's other features include:

Favorite Fetches
SearchSpy, which allows the user to see real-time searches (filtered or unfiltered).
A daily joke.
Weather.
Horoscopes.
Yellow pages, white pages, and maps.

An image of Arfie from Dogpile's "Joke of the Day" linkDogpile's mascot is a dog, specifically a Dalmatian, named "Arfie", that "fetches" search results in news, web, images, and music. Like the Google logo, Arfie will occasionally change his appearance for certain holidays and other events.

I will often use Yahoo,Google, and Live. I like Live the best because if your looking for high quality pictures there the place to go. If im trying to search for a website that has information on something like for a report I will use both google and yahoo to see if they have different search results that each other. I like google better.
