Just wondering, how do you guys get ideas for designing something. For example, if you are designing a logo then how do you get idea for it? Getting inspiration from others? using some sketch in your mind etc.

I tend to visit talkfreelance and just get my inspiration from there. I also like to listen to music and get some inspiration from there

You get inspiration from music? That's pretty interesting...you're able to get a graphical inspiration from sound. I'm going to have to give it a try one of these times when I'm stuck on ideas

Grocery Store. I am dead serious. You go to the fresh market, look at all of the colors, the fruit, and the problems that people are talking about together, gives me too many ideas.

i'm probably the most weard guy on this forum ( btw is it weard or weird? )

but I go to school, travel by train, bike and car. and suddenly KABLAAM! i get a new tip/truc for a design. Example: Last week I was going to school and I was thinking on how to make a design which is not something I have created before. And then I thought, why not melt the logo into the menu and have not a big header like other sites... and there it was, I created/thought of another design! It's as simple as that. But if you can't make a design some day and you try to hard, then it won't work at all. Just play a game to relax, or watch some tv, believe me this works!

I always go to other freelance sites...look at portfolios...look at contests...etc...More than enough in these places

getting inspiration from something, i don't think it'll be stealing. copying the design directly and then changing just only a bit of this and that, that could be considered stealing. I don't know where I get ideas, from anything I guess, it just pops in there.

the ideas comes as an involuntary thing... I feel that stressing it out/forcing out the idea just won't make the design as creative or as good as doing it out of inspiration.

I find i have more ideas listening to music and just testing any filter/brush/shapes and so on around and gives you ideas. well it works for me.

I am a bit like Klaas. I can get an idea anywhere. I have had a lot of ideas lately, but no real full site ideas. Some just germinate in the back of my mind for a long time, and others become fully visual to me very quickly.

Often when designing a website I have a vision in my head of exactly what I expect it to look like from the logo, banner, layout, color scheme, functionality before I ever start working on it. Then I work as hard as I can to bring that vision to life without compromise. Most of the times I can get very close.
