Default Paying for SEO? Worth It?

I was just wondering if anyone has paid for SEO and how the results were? Would you refer sombody to that particular company which has given you best results?

I don't think that it is a good idea to pay for SEO services. You are better off just learning about it and doing it yourself

for me, it depends on how much money i have and what site it'll be. But i think I'd go with doing it on my own. Of course there's no space for mistakes but if things go wrong, I didn't waste money on some company and I only got myself to blame.

Depends on what they do...there's a mod for vBulletin called vBSEO that costs $150 - makes me shudder...I'll never spend thatmuch on that mod

Right, I dont know how rates would go for a regular html website, probably not nearly as much - but it depends on how extensive the SEO service is...the vBSEO example was just to give you an idea of how expensive this stuff can be

My philosophy: Never pay for SEO.

The only exception would be if it's someone you know, or someone you know highly recommends them. Even then they can't guaratee anything.

I think the determination of paying for an SEO or not depends on a lot of things. If you are reading forums like this, then I would suggest the answer is no. If you are not at all educated in the fundamentals and/or do not care to learn, then you may be able to help yourself a good deal by spending some money with a reputable SEO Firm, to do the work for you.

Much like any other aspect of business, you can always outsource those things you do not want to do or that you are not good at.

SEO can be mega expensive. A one time payment of $1000.00 and then monthly payments of say $200.00 is not out of the question. The problem is that it is very time consuming. Simple on-page optimization is easy enough if you adhere to certain rules and this will enable you to feature well in MSN. It is the off-page optimization (link building) that takes time. Use "seo tutorial" as a keyword and have a look in Google when you have time. There's loads of info on the subject.

I have been doing SEO for past 2 years and find that it is a very taxing field. It always keeps you on your toes as you always need to think ahead of the competition. $!50 is too low I myself charge $2000 one time setup (for corporates ) + $250 per month for maintenance after top 10 listing. For personal websites the charge is $250 without maintenance.
