Default Use Of Keywords

When one is doing SEO, is it best to focus on the keywords that have high search numbers (more competition) or keywords with less search numbers?

Default Re: Use Of Keywords

I'd say it would be most ideal to find keywords that have alot of searches with little competition. It may be tough to find keywords like this, but in the long run, it'll make your job alot easier.

There is a scale you can use to determine the value of a keyword. You take your search frequency and divide the number of the results into it. Like this:

Search term frequency=30000
competition=7000000

30000/7000000=.0043 or .4%

The higher the percentage the better the keyphrase is.

Default Re: Use Of Keywords

You should target less searched keywords at first. It will be easier to get good ranking for these keywords. Once you have a good ranking for those small keywords, search engines should begin to trust you. Then you can always target a more popular keyword and eventually work your way up.

This is why you should target keyphrases, not keywords.
You can still rank well in a competitive market for non-competitive phrases.
