Default Brand Free Problem Identified

I am testing the Brand Free Tools feature. It does not seem to work if I have Norton Internet Security enabled. When it is disabled it works correctly.

I am sure that many users have Norton Internet Security.

Is there a solution to this problem other than disabling Norton?

Hi there,

It will probably be the firewall rules in the Norton Firewall conflicting with rules in Internet Explorer, therefore when it is enabled it will be prioritised through Windows and use Norton's rules.

Kieran Taylor.

Your Norton Internet Security must be blocking referral data. I don't think most web users have this data blocked. There isn't really anything else you can do, some users do have referral data blocked and the "powered by iwebtool" branding appears, but like I said, there isn't much you can do.

Thanks for the info. I would like to test this by unblocking referral data. Does anyone know where this setting may be in Norton Internet Security?

I was able to track down the area in Norton Internet Security that is causing iwebtools to fail. The area is Privacy Control.

Under Privacy Control in the advanced section, there is a option called 'Information About Visited Sites'. The options available are [Block, Permit Same Site, Permit]. The default setting is Permit Same Site.

In order for iwebtools to work correctly, you need to change the setting from 'Permit Same Site' to 'Permit'. Or you can just disable Privacy Control.

But in any case, the default settings in Norton Internet security is causing problems.

Hi there,

Well done in finding that out, I had the same problem, and I too use Norton Internet Security although it never bothered me that much. Make sure that if anyone else has the same problem you share this knowledge.

Pat on the back for you .

Regards,
Kieran Taylor.
