hello to everyone. I have a brand new site and i was wandering how can i promote it in Google or yahoo (how can i gain PR)? Also i wanted to ask about a offer i received yesterday by one of my link partners. He mentioned something about a link exchange site rank1.info ?has anyone heard of it, is it good, and will it help me in some way? I'm new to these things and i hope I'll get your advice.

Forget about PR. Exchange links with related trusted sites. (your competition).
Don't use any link exchange program, There have been stories of people being banned from google for using those types of services.

Just write good content and pick your link exchanges carefuly.

There are many things I would do; you need to get your google rank high to be able to compete with other sites that share the same keyword.

But I would first look at your keywords, identify your market

For instance If your selling a product, identify the key specifics of the products that no other market has. Then I would concentrate on your rank

Ranking is based on link backs, email as many companies as you can requesting links to your site and any cross promotional ideas. Do this professionally as you can and try not to offend or get offend, burning bridges at this stage can be dangerous.

Submit your site to as many directories as you can, I just used the link some one posted on here, it was very handy:

Talk to some blogers that are related to your site field, some people can be very friendly and helpful

go to related forums and put a link in your signature (like mine underneath)

Write articles about your site and see if you can get them published in internet adds.

It may take a few months for google to pick up your ratings, I`ve only just stated (about 4/5 weeks) and have a iwebtool prediction of 4, so its not too hard.

I thought directories were not good places to add your links? I'm using original content to get 1 way backlinks but on recip links how many is "too many?". Should I have a max of 50 on each of my 5 sites for a total of 250 or?

It depends on the directory.. If it's well catagorised and SEO friendly theres no reason submiting to it would be damaging.

I wouldn't have anymore than 10 recip links. There is no definted number that is too many, But as soon as it starts looking like you are exchanging links to boost rank google will devalue those links. A single one-way link is better than 10 recips.

In agreement, if you are exchanging links with many directories then your page will be linking to link farms.

But not all directories ask for link back, I would only link back to a couple or as few as you can (the highly specialised and high pr ones), try to use directories that dont require link backs, and talk to as many high ranking quality relevant companies as you can for link exchanges.
