Static is best. THat means that the IP address doesn't ever change. You don't have to update your dns servers.

If you have a dynamic IP address, when your IP address changes, your name servers must also change to reflect your IP change. Sometimes this can take up to 2-3 days. That means that your website wouldn't be available at all on the internet until the changes are complete.

Hi there,

It isn't true that your site will go down due to having a dynamic although the only time it will is if by chance you happen to visit the site while it is updating, a bit like a dynamic Internet connection. The reason why people offer static IP addresses to serve your website is so you can have Secure Certificate, which is handy for software websites as it shows they are secure and safe, and means that you can trust them in most cases.

The bad thing about a static IP is that if you get accidentally placed on the SPAM database, you will never be able to send e-mail's or any other type of data through the database you are banned from.

Kieran Taylor.

Thumbs up Re: Domain name with Static/Dynamic IP address

Good discussion. but have one issue. Need some more investigation. If someone sign in like in this car website
Free services to sell your car
An automated emails sent to activate the account. what happened with yahoo, the automated emails reach the destination late like between 20 min-2 hours. But on other emails accounts like hotmail, blueyonder etc. the automated email delivers straight away.
Is this issue with dynamic IP address or with yahoo email account.
can anyone have experienced this problem and can he clarify this. thanks

Hi there,

That isn't anything to do with IP addresses mate. That will be to do with database and e-mail flooding I think. Remember a IP address is just a destination where a domain points to, the IP address identifies what server it is located at, dynamic or not.

I understand what you mean. But the problem is if we use share IP address, then we dont know how many websites are sharing that IP address and if one of them is black listed as a spam, then it is possible that mine website will come into spam list too. The reason is we sending email from same IP address. This is my thinking. I dont know what other thinks or had have experienced.
Am I right?

I've experienced the blacklist problem yesterday. I went to submit my site to a directory, and they gave me a blacklist message. I didn't think of the shared IP thing, that's probably what it was, cause I'd never been to that directory before.

Hi there,

Like I said it's only useful for secure certificates, because people share servers you can experience things like that, if you don't want that to happen your best bet is to ask for a dedicated server, it usually cost a bit extra for this but saves being blacklisted. I'd stick with dynamic unless you need a static IP address.

We can also buy a static name with existing hosting company. It will charge you about £1.50.
Best solution is to buy cheap hosting from here http://www.hosting-cheap.co.uk and get domain name with static IP address of 1.50£. So altoghter it will cost you £2.50 for month.

Hi there,

The link you have in your post...it might be easier to place it in your signature rather than typing it in posts. Go to User CP > and then change your preferences.
