Default Free Directory Script

I have experience with php link directory script, both the free and paid versions. I have a lots of directories using this script and i'm fairly happy with the performance.

What i would like to know and hear is other directory owners opinions on the free versions of other free directory scripts. Tbh i find it quite hard to install and test myself all of those scripts

If you can comment on the differences between them it would be even better, but please remember that i'm looking forward to hear about the free version comments, not the paid ones.

Why i'm asking ? Because there will be a new free version of the php link directory script ( see here ) and there will be a choice to make for me in the near future.

Thanks

Personally I like PHPLD, Its fairly easy to use and can run pretty much on it's own for the most part. There are some really great mods that you can apply to make it even nicer.

Admin backend is nice and clean.
User end really depends on the theme you use or create.

That's quite accurate,

i would like to hear from directory owners who use other free directory script, some close and personal experience.

I did try other scripts but found most of them clumsy or hard coded to allow any modification to look and feel or manipulation to customize front end / back end. Finally settled for phpld free version 2.1.2 and running it with some self created mods and some free mods available on the web ... sorry not the answer you are looking for, just that phpld is the only one that I could find admin friendly.

Thanks
