Question Shopping cart

I want to set up an account with charge.com, but the issue I have is I want complete flexibility over the layout and the look and the flow of my web pages. Using the standard PHP shopping cart (oscommerce), I don't have any flexibility at all. In fact, it is a job just trying to find the code to replace their header with mine.

Is it at all possible to produce a shopping cart using only HTML, via the form tags? Is it possible to do this and still be able to conform to bluepay gateway? I went to blueway, and started reading their faq, God himself couldn't decipher that chaos!!! So needless to say, I left pretty quick. I did a query on HTML shopping carts, and came up with loads of SEO friendly carts and HTML frontend templates, but that doesn't help.

So, if anyone has any experience using shopping carts, could you please help?

Also, I went to charge.com to try to get some info, and I e-mailed them, and there were no answers to the specs on their products, not even so much as the name of the software. All I know is they use bluepay.

i don't think html can use shopping carts. First of all it cannot change by itself like php. Php was meant so the server can change the webpage without going in and changing it so it can update automatically. If you want to use html you have to use php in the main stuff like buying and stuff. the main page (introduction) could be html

It's all kinda overwhelming, a bit. First I'm still not completely comfortable with HTML. I just got started messing around with CSS. Now I have to start learning PHP and MySql just to install a shopping cart, anybody that ever said this web design stuff was easy was out of their mind.

hehe,

I'm afraid that whoever said that doesn't make very good websites!!

With little knowledge of HTML, let alone PHP and MySQL , building a shopping cart where you have 'complete' contol over the layout is going to be very difficult to achieve. In fact anything other than an out of the box solutions is going to be pretty tricky to master.

If you are serious about it and you have the hours to put in, perhaps try zencart, the look can be controlled by altering the css and that may allow you to produce results your happy with.

Thanks matt, I'll check that out. I did dig my claws into PHP, and it doesn't seem that bad afterall. I currently have oscommerce installed, but the interface on that is pretty weak. I can't complain, it was free, and I always appreciate free...

HTML is a presentation language not a server/interactive language. All it does is produce what you see on the screen, php does the background stuff. Therefore it is impossible to create a shopping cart of purely html. Good luck with oscommerce, it should be pretty easy to edit to your liking.

I actually found a program that was roughly what I was looking for. Problem is, the script was a directory script. It had one HTML (PHP) file that could be easily changed to suit my needs, but again, it's a directory script. There are plenty of shopping carts with an HTML front end, but that's not to say they are written only in HTML, just means that I can edit what you see by changing the HTML and not the PHP script. Hopefully that clarifies a little bit more.

I know PHP and MySQL. It's possible to make a shopping cart yourself if you know PHP and MySQL.

Okay, let me know when you get if finished, oh and the gateway is a proprietary charge.com gateway, they no longer use bluepay. Also, if you could make it search the internet for all users who are currently interested in spending money, that would definately be an added feature....

I'm still waiting to hear back from charge.com, they keep trying to play phone tag with me, only they won't leave a message, and I screen all my calls. I told them to email me, but they don't send any info, only say they'll call again. After I get ahold of them, I will begin setting up the software they give me.
