| Member | you could read up on it here: http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html Quote:
To naive users, it doesn't mean anything. but if you're a link builder, a domain seller/buyer, or something like that, it means something most of the time.

![]() | In general, you should try to acheive at LEAST a PageRank of 5. (PR5) - it is tough sometimes, but can be done with a little time. Kenni once said that PR works like points like this: PR1 = 10 points PR2 = 100 points PR3 = 1000 points PR4 = 10000 points PR5 = 100000 points ..etc... this isn't actually how it works I think (I don't really know), but it's a great representation.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for that link red....So let me see if I got this right....If I have 16 web sites, each having 10 pages, then each site will have a PR of 10. And if I chose one page of one of those sites to be the most important, and linked to that page from all of the pages in all of the other 15 sites, then that page would significantly increase in PR? And if I add, say, 100 inbound links from outside sites, each having few links and high PR, then that too would significantly raise the PR on my "home" page? And if I link outbound to other sites, I will decrease my PR? Thats how it sounds to me. That is Googles rating, are there PR's for Yahoo or MSN? Or do they do it different? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks for all the links. I think I got the gist of it all. It's still a bit new to me, I probably won't understand it fully 'till I dive in and start trying to make my way to the top. But for the most part, I think I've got it. |

![]() | A little off the direct topic. It is a known fact that linking to a known link farm or similar can adversly affect your page rank. Does the same apply if you list in loads of directories?

![]() | Forgive me for my wording. Basically what I was trying to get at, is if I were to submit my site to loads of directories, would my page rank increase as the inbound and outbound link percentages change. At the momement I have a PR3 on my 1st site. I would hate to lose that ranking by allowing too many inbound links? I have been told that if you link to a so called 'dodgy site' you could lose your PR.
