![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am new to HTML, and I came across a web page I liked, and it included "<div>" tags. So....I did some research on it, and much to my dismay, the only thing I could come up with in all the tutorials and references was that it was like a container. The examples they gave didn't seem to make a change to the contents of the div tag, except that it spaced the breaks out more. Now what I was hoping is that the div tag was a replacement for tables as a means of formatting page layout. So my question is....If it is a container, how do I define the boundaries of that container? And....Is is possible to place that container anywhere I need it on my page, and have consistent results amongst all of the browsers? Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

| Member | Kudos to you learning HTML! Not entirely consistent results. Different browsers render codes in different ways whether we like it or not. But yes, we can define the boundaries of the div containers using CSS. It is a good alternative to tables for page layout since div's paired with css is a very flexible combo. There are a lot of websites that mainly rely on just divs and css working together, my personal site is one of those for example. edit: my personal site is not in my sig btw. you might start looking for it there. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | You must be the doctor that is also a Calvin and Hobbs fan....am I right? I liked how the background image didn't move. I was reading up on that last night, something about absolute, relative, and 2 others, but i forgot what the 2 others are. That is something I had in mind, like using frames without using frames, you know what I mean? Part of my page will scroll, but the side, or the top menu stay positioned relative to the browser, not the window... Last edited 06-29-2006 at 05:42 PM. |

| Member | lol yeah, that's me. what you said, having your page look like it's using frames (although it's not) uses the overflow property in css. keep studying about css and play with the codes to find out how they work. You could always ask us here for clarifications like this ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Great, I plan on keeping my nose to the screen until I get it down. Thanks for the advice. The overflow property is one I haven't had the pleasure of coming across yet. I'm heading out to the great expanse to look that up now. Thanks |
