I personally use a list of social bookmarks and rss feed directories.

What are some other good strategies?

i pick up the phone and call the google bot. he sounds a lot like Microsoft Sam. Hes a nice bot unlike the butthole bot over at yahoo. Hes a JERK..

Besides doing that you can just use forums to get your site indexed.

Backlinks Backlinks and more backlinks.

Everyone seems to have a different theory these days and google seems to change the algorithm at the same rate i change my undies.

I think you should just look for as many link opportunities as possible.

Be it reciprocal, one-way, etc.

I also find that the age of your site, updating your sites content, and number 1, providing good content that people are interested in helps.

I also feel that the amount of traffic your site receives has an impact on your search engine rank.

Organic linking not only provides backlinks but is also how the bots find your site.

Good link from well indexed web site will help you get indexed. And article submission will allow you to speedup sandbox living.

Adding sitemap in 'webmasters tools' of Google is also a good way to index faster.

Links, links, and more links. I usually start a site off with posts to every social bookmarking site, forum links in a signature across any related sites, and more. Although the little things like RSS submission help as well.
