Hello nicewebkid, Logic here.
I know what we have learned in the past 10+ years of buying domain names.
We steer clear of any non .com nmes although in our portfolio we do have 6 .mobi domains.

The hype got us on those but we have seen all of these extensions come and then go.

Today we buy each day names from those drop auctions and they are always .com's.

Outside of the .mobi 6 we have we for our main web site we did buy the .net and .org because that is our primary to cover ourselves.

The hype on .mobi's seems to have subsided and we hear little to notyhing about them.

Just sharing what we have done in our world.

If you're asking are .mobi domains going to be credible and last the pace then the answer is, I don't have a crystal ball, but look back at some other TLDs. Many of these have there own place and have remained credible, .com, .org, etc. Look to Europe, consider the country domains, .uk, .fr, .de, etc, all pretty well recognised, but the Europe wide TLD (.eu) has been around for some time, but yet to make an impact.

So as to .mobi it's really anyone's guess. It's been available but not particularly widely used, my opinion is that if it hasn't taken off by now, it's unlikely to take off big in the near future.
