Default domains with multiple dashes

Is that a good idea to register a domain with multiple dashes? Some webmasters said it's look reeks of spam. Let's say if I register a domain like this makemoney.com, do I really need to register the make-money.com? So, I won't miss any traffic on that.

I do not find anything wrong with that. I would prefer to go with it if name is good. But remember content is a king

I am not aware of multiple dashes in a name as being spam. When selecting a name, choose a memorable one, if thats got dashes then what's wrong. Personally I wouldn't choose a name with more than a single dash or maybe 2.

As far as I am aware having a Domain name with dashes is a good thing for SEO.
For example you are better to have a domain that is Trout-Fishing.com than TroutFishing.com as you get results both from Trout and Fishing.

Thank for sharing the information. There are many niche domain with dash to be register. I feel that with only one dash is fine, more than that is look like a affiliate link.

Nexus, hell to you.

Logic here.
I do not own a single hypen domain name out of 4000+ .com names.
Even I can say it does not appear that having hypens causes any issues with your rankings.
God knows Logic nows very little about these search engine operations.

That said though if you want the name to have a stand alone value that please keep in mind that those hypens are in most every sale price we see and we see a lot of domain name sales that sale for greater the 2000.00 USD that is, there has never been a domian name with these hypens (that we have seen anyways).
We also realize when telling a person to visit your site verbally that they are not going to remember the hypen here and the hypen there.

Where would we apply the hypens in our usage? We would apply them in the redirect keywprd usage.

That is how we are doing our gig so thought we would share.

Logic...

And then there is the possibility of "double-dash" domain names too. I use one of those for a demo site I have

http://www.web--masters.com

Any domain name having anything to do with "web master" have been gone for a long, long time. There are times, to me, when getting the more popular word into the domain name is more important than any potential flack from purest that don't like its appearance.

It is a bit awkward to say verbally though, but not any worse than the single dash. I'll say "webmasters double dash dot com" and if they don't get it come bask with "webmasters double hyphen dot com" and they'll usually have it.

I think dashes will only effect when some user typing your domain name and forget to type dashes. Ranking should not be effect at all with dashes.

Using hyphens can help with search engine optimization, because it helps search engines accurately discern the keywords from the domain name.
To get the benefits of both direct navigation and search engine optimization, I often recommend buying both the hyphen and non-hyphen versions of a domain name, and have both domains point to the same site.

Its not a good idea to have too many dashes in your domain name. This offen leads to confusion and you will not get good desired hits for your site. The golden rule is keep it simple and neat.

Dashed in a domain name is a bad idea and I wouldn't recommend you doing that.
