Question What is happening to MSN, what does the message mean?

now: the clock time

I am using MSN search
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=book&Form=MSNH
I got a message::
We are seeing an increased volume of traffic by some malware software. In order to protect our customers from damage from that malware, we are blocking your query. A few legitimate queries may get flagged, and for that we apologize. Please be assured that we are hard at work on this problem and hope to get it resolved even better as soon as possible.
If you are using phpBB, please check out the phpBB downloads site http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php and make sure you are not vulnerable.
- MSN Search Team

What does it mean? What is malware? Does any one have experience of using malware?

Five minutes after the clock time...
MSN back to normal function.... now, you can do the MSN search

Huh? When did this happen? Are you sure it was for everyone or just your host address?

In the past, MSN would not search queries that contained "phpbb". The reason? It had to do something with them not wanting phpBB forum users to get hacked, so they just didn't search those queries.

PhpBB is a very unsecure system. It's not super easy to hack, but it is possible.

I'm not so sure why you got this message for "book", but that's the basics.

two things I am sure :
I was not using phpbb
I was visiting MSN but not MSN visited my computer...
I think no one was hacked.

I found more info here ... one day you might have the same message
maybe this will be helpful for you
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...oogle+Sea rch
some info says G, M are all trying to against mal-ware

it says "A few legitimate queries may get flagged"
I think it might be talking about MSN

does it mean MSN found some links which contains mal-ware and msn try to delete them? In order to protect MSN customers

does it mean phpbb old version might be most popular to have this kind of problem to be malwared.

hm..malware is like a virus or a spammer. phpbb can send emails to members and you can sign them up thats why it came up. oh well i'm still confused

Anybody think it's funny that only Microsoft's services have these malware problems?

I got similar results the other day on google, I don't remember the query though. It was just a warning, and there was an option at the bottom of the message that allowed me to show the results anyway. Is it the same thing?

Thumbs up Re: What is happening to MSN, what does the message mean?

it is good that MSN is working on this issue.

---- may be the following can reduce Malware ------

on your side, you may also have basic anti-spy function to help the internet
a basic anti-spy to have: steps
1. go to yahoo and download its toolbar+anti-spy setting
2. download yahoo anti-spy software
3. run anti-spy
4. view each details
5. you decide remove or not remove each spy

check it often... then you will have basic knowedge about about SPY and adware...

if you have windows adcontrol kind of Windupdates adware variant or file name WinAdCtl.... then you may go to CP to uninstall the program....
Windows AdControl tracks a users browsing habits and distributes the data to remote servers to produce pop-up advertisements....

these spy or adware will keep your CPU busy or even hijack browser
