10 Ways to Improve Your Website's Ranking

Studies have shown that the higher a website appears in the search results, the more users will visit that site. Search engine optimization has proven to be a useful tool in the world of Web 2.0. It helps to improve the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines by using natural or organic (non-paid) search results.

1. Register your domain with major search engines. ABC members get listed on 40 directories as a benefit.
2. Keep your content fresh as it can help improve your rankings.
3. In order to be included in local searches, include your location in your text.
4. Make sure that your keyword phrase is included in the links to your site and within your site.
5. Focus on search phrases instead of just using single keywords.
6. The quickest way to get a new website listed is to use another quality site to link to it.
7. Google Maps has added a useful new feature for placing your company in local listings. Simply enter your company’s information at google.com/local/add for instant online visibility.

Sure you got some really necessary steps written in post. But i Guess, this can be summarized "Build link" -- Build as many quality backlinks you can. Buy links, exchange links, bait link,

Directory submissons, article writting, blog/forum posting all move around building links and higher ranking.

Usually people say 5 things, 10 things, 15 things or a certain number of things one can do to promote their website. I think I should be "a number of things". You cannot fix the number of things you can do to promote your site. No hard and fast rules there.
