![]() | http://www.free-downloads-for-mp3.com is my long-ass crappy name. I chose it as it looked like it was gonna do great on type-in searches once it resolved in the search engines. But now the more I learn - I think it would take forever to make the google list against such fierce competition with those key words. And I read that SE's sometimes penalize hyphenated keyword rich urls as being spammy. What do you think? Am I farting in the wind? I'm willing to build the backlinks and blog and stuff. I have 7 other equally bad domain names to choose from.... I bought them before I found out gateway pages were a bad thing. So they're parked. I'm a noob... advice appreciated.

![]() | Honestly I don't think you have much of a shot at ranking highly in google without a lot of time and energy spent. The domain name may help, but good really doesn't pay much attention to keyworded names any longer. Your best bet would be to use a short domain name (a .com) and build a lot of back links. Use your signature in forums to get backlinks. The idea is to get backlinks on sites with a high google PR ranking, and make those links directing to your site say "free mp3 downloads". Thats the key moreso then your domain name. |

![]() ![]() | You do need to get a smaller domain name, but keep it punchy, domain names are still considered in the relevancy by the SEs. I remember reading an aticle that hyphenated domain names are better than underscored for spaces, as for spammy, the longer ones certainly, a one or 2 hyphons you'd probably get away with.

![]() | I think that it is not really good to put all keywords in the URL. I think that you need tfind something more memorable like google.com or yahoo.com is.
