We all know signature advertising is extremely effective. It's free and also aims to target a specific group of people (depending on the forum genre).

How many of you actually use Signature advertising to its full potential?

Depending on the website your using it at I think that it can be extremely beneficial as promotion. Especially if you find a relevent forum related to your niche.

I don't receive alot of hits directly from signature clicks but I think it does help the word of mouth campaign and just generally letting people know that your site exists.

Signaturelinks are very useful in big and famous forums.
But i do not hope that people from the forum click my signature links, because that are doing not many people. I hope that with the pagerank of the forum,
will let my site crowl up on google for special key words. I use sig links in every forum i am. And i try to get it's best aim. But i also think, you do not should only sign up in forums to get a better pagerank for your site. You should be happy to echange your knowledge with other, to learn a lot and to have fun.

I don't use forum signatures for marketing. A link allows readers to learn more before accepting advice or opinions that I give.

My niche is web design for small business owners. I participate in forums to stay in touch with the market to discover topics of interest, and to contribute advice based on my experience because I like helping people.

The value of your signature links may help your ranking in Google, but its importance is minimal compared to a backlink from a highly ranked site with the same theme as your website.

I get very little traffic directly from forum posts, and perhaps a few serious inquiries each year. Forums are an opportunity to learn and share, so I don't join to market my services. I join to study the market and be aware of small business owner concerns and trends.

very true... links from forums are pretty good way to help you build a good SERP. Especially if your site in a sig is related to the forum topic...
