| Smurf | I have been trying to learn what keywords are best for my site. When I use the keyword search tools, they often say there are no listings for the words i type in. If I keep trying related words until I get results, then the words I'm using are not really relevant. My site deals with creativity, journaling, art, etc. The words that are most obvious to me are not coming up with high ranks on the keyword search tools. So, my question is, do I use what I think is relevant anyway? Or do I try to use some unrelated, but higher ranked words? |

![]() | I also think that using relevant keywords, even not much popular, is better than using popular keywords which have nothing to do with your site content. I think search engines are so picky, they won't give your site a good status if your keywords are not matching your content. IMO Try to use the synonyms of your keywords, they might be even more popular than your original keywords. Have a great day |

![]() ![]() | Try thinking like a customer, also. Rather than use highly technical terms to describe your business... what would a person put in a search box to find your business or service? Next, search Google for those phrases (and to find your competition), and see who is on page one. Review their text and perhaps they are in tune to more generic phrases that people use. Key words are great. You may want to look for key phrases, too. For the last 10 years I thought I did website design. In a recent keyword study I found out people search 4x more often for web design, so the difference between "web" and "website" was a surprise. I am blessed to be on Google page one for commercial web design and commercial website design, so I guess I do work in both. Google continues to get more sophisticated, so things like terms with numerical characters in a search bring up results with the characters as numbers as well as text (ie 2 or two doesn't matter). Results for synonyms of your original search are served up, also. Stuffing a site with variations of key words like spelling them wrong, or singular and plural versions of a given word used to be effective. In my opinion those days are gone, and those strategies are unnecessary.
