![]() | GiorgosK when linkplacementservices says, "Perform only relevant submission" I think they are referring to the well known fact that links from sites that have nothing to do with the content of your site, and lack any meaningful keywords or content near the link do not carry the same importance as a link from a similiar or related site that is populated with useful keywords and content. But more importantly, link exchanges often are filled with random garbage beyond irrelevant. And in this case it most certainly can hurt you in SERPs. Maybe not immediately, maybe not for a year, and maybe never. But browsing the Google groups for webmasters help will reveal just how many people have been penalized, blacklisted, or otherwise had a decrease in rankings for various shady practices whether they were aware of it being shady, including participating in paid link programs, link exchanges, and other attempts to "game" the system. This post at Google groups http://groups.google.com/group/Googl...6667d6ce65dabb discusses the concept of link exchange and "bad" links fairly well. Many free directories create the same problem. The directories tend to be fille d with garbage and can have a negative impact on pagerank and likewise end up with penalties. paknettech just be wise in where you choose to associate your website. Every link is a good link if it doesn't come from a so-called "bad neighborhood" and is at least put in a context that could be interpreted as a relevant link. A great way to think about linking is to consider where you might advertise your business in the analog world. If you are selling classy wedding photography would you want your business advertised on the same billboard as a porn shop? Even though the porn shop has nothing to do with your business, negative associations could be made by anyone who viewed the billboard. Link building and link exchanges especially are similar. But in the digital world that association can be worse, because a search bot doesn't think about what it is interpretting, it can only look for relationships and patterns, and thus even an innocent and honest link can be misinterpreted. I highly recommend browsing the Google Webmaster help groups for more information as you proceed. http://groups.google.com/group/Googl...ter_Help?hl=en And while all of this can be complex, and often times you will hear conflicting evidence, a good site, with a good product/service/idea, and good content will find it's audience. Just use common sense and a modicum of ethics as you build links and relationships and you will do just fine.

![]() | I understand what you are saying but I have never experienced any inbound link carrying negative value, at most it could be 0 A link could not possible hurt a site if links could heart people would go out and give BAD links to their competitor's sites That is what I was trying to point out

| Member | Giorgosk is correct, a link back to you can in no way hurt, no matter where it is from. IF it could, then it would be easy to undermine your competitors.

![]() | Just try a mixture of things, you will never get the right answer. It will be trial and error on your part and most of the time it'll be a hit or miss kind of deal. |
