![]() | Anyone can say SEO us useless or good. They all have their own opinion. Some site use SEO to optimize themself and make tons of profits while some don't. For me, SEO is for site who want to be good in ranking for a long time whilst site like AMEX which has been around before SEO came doesn't need it due to the fact that they have already gathers their user base large enough to make them profits. |

![]() | Websites for large corporations like that doesn't need SEO. They probably get good placement in search engines on name and domain name alone. Their websites perhaps even got sitelinks listed below their search engine listing.

![]() | As VPM points out, large companies have less to be concerned about when it comes to organic search results. They have extensive marketing campaigns to both new and existing clients and countless other programs that are keeping their brand very much alive. Companies like AMEX have people seeking them out on top of all else simply due to their history, service, and word of mouth. The article in reference states that a search for "credit cards" does not show AMEX in the top 10, but neither is any other credit card company. But more importantly, I took from the article the idea that spending money on hiring an SEO specialist might not be that wise an investment, especially for smaller companies. Even a few intelligent searches on SEO will reveal all the basics to ensure that you are not invisible in SERPs. Overfocusing on SEO for some companies begins to detract from the creation of useful content and creates some questionable marketing techniques. It also often leads to strange expectations by company owners who might not understand how how SEO works and that there are black hat practices that could hurt them in the end. Thus my interpretation is that SEO is important, but to remember that there are so many ways to promote and build your business. Ignoring SEO could be a suicidal move for small business. But treating it as the holy grail just seems naive. Unless you are a link farmer or some other spammer. Legitimate businesses should be focus on servicing their customers, running their business, and offering useful content and resources. Thanks for posting the link. Also I enjoyed the comment from netrepreneur about the article being linkbait. Certainly a genius move whether they planned it or not! merry day everybody.
