Default Yahoo makes semantic search shift

Yahoo has announced its adoption of some of the key standards of the "semantic web".

The technology is widely seen as the next step for the world wide web and it involves a much richer understanding of the masses of data placed online.

The company said it would start to include some semantic web identifiers when indexing the web for Yahoo search.

The move could mean a big boost for semantic web technologies which have struggled to win a big audience.

I think this is great news, and makes me wonder if this is something Google have been testing for a while and will launch sooner than expected now that Yahoo are going public.

Great news. This should allow searching to take a move in the right direction. Google probably already have something, or at least are not far behind. With Yahoo declaring first are we in for a battle of the SEs, or will Google quash all the competition?
