Default Relevant Links and Competitors

I want to exchange links with sites that are relevant to my own (web and graphic design), but that doesn't make sense to me because what designer is going to want to advertise a competitor (and why would I want to)?

What I understand from his post is:

He want to advertise his site on other "similar site" or site in same niche. But then doubt if that can be useful to him as he think why would a competitor being interested in having his link on their site.

Something like that..

Am I correct?

i think this what he is talking about... he want to exchange link to those site that is related to his, and if he exchange link to web and graphic design, which is related to his site, its doesn't make sense coz they offer the same service.. why promote competitor? (right me if im wrong)

Well you don't advertise or exchange links with your competitors, basically.

You do it with relevant sites: a webmaster and/or graphic design directories, beware of link farms.

Content sites / online magazines related to your industry.

Portals in your region can be helpful too.

Professionals who complete your services instead of competing with it, for example a search engine optimization firm/professional , domain names resellers, if you do not offer that your self, hosting companies , ....

If you do not offer flash for example, you can exchange with someone who does....

There are other ways and scenarios, it depends on your actual status.

M.G.

Exchanging Links with other's in your niche is integral to a good seo campaign as yalla mentioned above -
if you have a service that a competitor doesn't have such as flash design approach them with a request for a link exchange plus a partnership to send each other work. Google loves high quality sites that link to each other!

Well just hopefully when they buy, they don't see any other links to lead them off your site to then buy on the competitors site. Just offer something better then the competitors

Exchange link with relevant websites make your website familiar with competitors website.

If you have your link on high ranked page then it improve websites strength automatically when its cached by search engines.

yes, in adding to it - exchange links with the site which can be useful to you and to your visitors. Then only, it would be a successful link exchange.
