![]() | Hi Everybody! We'd like to open a new department for web site design, but I know nothing about PRO graphics software. Can you tell me what software to choose and what it will cost me? Thanks in advance for your help!

![]() | For website graphics, Macromedia Fireworks 8 is the best. Also, welcome to iWEBTOOL! www.macromedia.com Fireworks is specially built for website graphics and website design, and is indeed the best out there. Send me a PM if you plan to use it.

![]() | Isn't Photoshop for graphics? I know it's really good, and that it is made by Adobe. [Adobe bought Macromedia]

![]() | I'm going to (respectfully) disagree here. Adobe Creative Suite 2 is an excellent package. While PhotoShop likely has many features you will never use, the InDesign app is excellent for web design. I''ve never got a good handle on Fireworks, so it isn't worth it in my opinion. The Adobe CS2 package will cost you $899 (Standard package), or you could get just InDesign $699 (go for the full package). This is in contrast to the Macromedia Studio for $999 (as far as I can tell you can no longer purchase Fireworks as a stand-alone). And of course you can get these much cheaper used (try Amazon). PS: Look forward to some pretty incredible software in the near future now that Adobe and macromedia have teamed up. I expect to see even more integration between the two best software producers out there.

![]() | We just bought the Adobe Web Bundle, and we also already had Photoshop and InDesign. By the way, InDesign is for creating Catalogs, etc. Photoshop is for graphics software. Quote:
Why is Photoshop excellent for web design? GoLive or DreamWeaver would be much better for web design, woudn't it?

I was refering to graphics for web design, as was implied by the question. I use DreamWeaver for my actual coding. Never used GoLive, but I do find the WebDeveloper extension for Firefox utterly indespensible.

![]() | Avoid DreamWeaver at all costs, though... it's horrible. I hate it. Fireworks, though, does an excellent job!

![]() | I see no reason to avoid DreamWeaver, as long as you are hand-coding your websites. I have no idea about the graphical editor (never used it, never plan to) but I'm sure it can't be worse than FrontPage.

![]() | Well, right, avoid FrontPage at ALL ALL costs. But, I guess Dreamweaver's a better alternative to Frontpage, for sure...

![]() | I Agree, don't use FrontPage. Use Dreamweaver or GoLive (from Adobe).
