Default Best way to migrate from a PR6 domain to a new one

I have a domain with a PR 6 for the company that I work for. Part of a current process is that we launch a new website with a new domain name, which will replace the old website. The old PR6 domain will be kept, but not be used.

I therefore want to know if, and to what extent I can 'migrate' the PR of the old domain to the new domain. I already have both domains, so I can start from now one. My idea is that I already put a link on the old website to the new website, so that Google starts indexing it. The new site is still empty (the new website is being build), so there's not much to link to at the moment.

What would be your solution for this? Looking forward to your thoughts and ideas!

Would there be a major disadvantage in forwarding the old domain name to the new one?
