Thumbs up Russia and China the new Spam Superpowers

I made an outlandish statement more than a year ago. I said Russia is one of the most prolific countries at spewing out spam, malware and other serious threats to the sanity of the internet. Sophos has now confirmed what I already knew. http://www.sophos.com, a leading security firm has just published its latest report on the twelve worst spamming countries in the world: http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2008/02/dirtydozfeb08.html.

Even more compelling than Russia’s rapid rise to infamy, is the fact that North America, the previous spam king, has fallen to number three in the spam spewing global community. Asia takes the top spot, followed closely by Europe.

Look at the data and http://www.informationtechnologymanager.net/.

Thanx for posting, what do you think is the major reason behind Russia being the leading spamming country?

First is you had a nice blog simple but the weight of the content is really
heavy, very informative thanks for the wonderful posting. Anyway I thought
of US as the most spam in the world, but I didn't know that Russia and China
were competing for the position

That is not surprising. For me what is surprising is that US still leads, inspite of strict laws against spams. Many of the asian countries treat spams leagal, so all these "bullet prrof" hosting and mass email service has been outsourced.

Very interesting!

Also worth looking at is http://thetechdon.com/40-of-all-spam-comes-from-just-one-source/

a graph of the spam bots. 40% of all spam in the world comes from 1 bot. Unbelievable howmuch do you think those guys are making ??

I doubt it thats the US has decreased, it's just that Russia has increased dramatically, they were spamming my forum at least 50 times a day untill i got a mod which stopped it, well, almost anyway.
