Default Re: Oasis

1) They're a 'proper' band made up of family & mates, not manufactured by a record company focus group
2) They're guitar-based - always a good start!
3) They write their own songs
4) Their songs are original, but familiar (sounding like the Beatles, but different)
5) Their songs have interesting lyrical content...
6) ... and melodies...
7) ... and harmonies
8) Like the Beatles, their songs are easy to play/busk by guitarists
9) They have genuine political views, fights, disagreements etc... not staged for the media
10) They're British

Default Re: Oasis

I remember the first time I saw an Oasis video, I thought it was a Beatles coverband...That was a while ago...

I think the song you are thinking is "Wonderwall". I like that song BTW.

Paul is right, the reason any band like them is popular anymore is because people are expecting that retro singer/songwriter folky real music sound that we lost during the 80's and the 90's....That's why Jack Johnson, Norah Jones, Damian Rice, Coldplay, Corinne Bailey Rae, Matt Kearney, James Blunt, Sarah Mclachlan, Lisa Hannigan, and so many other singer/songwriter's are becoming so popular...It's the sound of the next few years...At least...And I for one am really liking the mellowed sounds of the now music.
