Post battle over Yahoo Google trying not to make yahoo-microsoft deal

Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt reportedly called Yahoo's CEO, Jerry Yang, shortly after Microsoft made its $44.6 billion bid to acquire the Web company on Friday.

Schmidt told Yang that Google would help Yahoo in any effort to prevent a deal with Microsoft, The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

Yahoo shares rose 63 cents, or 2.2%, to $28.90 today after gaining $9.20, or 48%, to close at $28.38 Friday. Shares of Microsoft inched up 6 cents to $30.51 this morning; the stock had lost $2.15, or 6.6%, to $30.45 in trading on Friday, when the deal was announced.

Shares of Google fell $11.90, or 2.3%, to $504.00 in morning trading.

I have read this news on MSN deal with Yahoo. But it is nice to know that Google would help Yahoo in any effort to prevent a deal with Microsoft. For me, it is a fairly competition and good for Yahoo that Google will exert more effort in helping them. Let's wait the next news on the major search engines.

It's not in Google's interest for the Microsoft/Yahoo dela to go through, of course they will help to resist the buy out. In some areas Yahoo is better than Google, but it just doesn't have the same pulling power as Google.

Correct! I think the Yahoo search technology is much better than Google. What Google is very good at is marketing.

At the price offered, how many votes would be willing to vote yes? MS did not go after the board, they went after the proxy votes

Apparently, Yahoo will reject MS's offer today. So say its a way to make MS offer more money for Yahoo.

Does anyone really think that the monopolies and mergers commission will allow it?

Isn't competition good for the end consumer. We can't let Google be the only dog on the block!

Both are good SEs but I prefer using google. And I think it's better yahoo to be just the way it is than to be a part of Microsoft.

It will be interesting to see how this battle pans out, because Yahoo is outsourcing 3% of search advertising to Google
