![]() | As you know link building is one of the most important things as per marketing goes. And Directory Submission plays a vital role in link building. Its probably the easiest way of getting one-way free/paid links to your website. This article will explain different aspects of where to submit, how to submit. DMoz Also called "Open Directory Project", or "Google Directory". DMoz is the biggest open directory project. You may find it very difficult getting listed on DMoz. Google and many other major search engines use DMoz directory listings. So its worth giving it a try. Yahoo Directory Another big directory. Even Google recommends submitting site to Yahoo Directory. Since getting listed on Yahoo Directory requires going through the approval process Google sees sites in Yahoo Directory as legit. It costs about $299 or more to get listed on Yahoo directory, based on your website category. If you are selling something online its worth getting listed, otherwise I would recommend spend the money on something else. I personally did submit a site on Yahoo Directory. I don't believe it did any good as per increasing my traffic or ranking. Again my site does not sell anything, so probably that justifies the return. Business.com Another big directory. Costs about $200 to get listed. They market their directory quite well. Its worth getting listed there if you are selling something on your website. Do you get traffic from directory submission? People don't use directories to search something, they use search engines in general. So directories will not get you much traffic. What you get is backlinks to your site. Get prepared These days links from high PR does not matter. Rather getting links from relevant sites is more important. Find out the category that best matches your website niche. Find the keywords that you like to rank for. Your directory submission title should contain the keyword you like to rank. Do your research find out the best keywords for your site. It is best to keep descriptions brief, cold and detached and no superlatives, no "best advertising information site in the world!" Try instead: "offers advertising information, tutorials, and resources". You are not selling on the directory. Make drafts of your description and title for keywords. Its best practice to make different sets of Title and Description for different keywords. How many is enough? You can never have enough one way links. The more directories that link to you, the better it is for you. Most SEO consultants submit to hundreds of directories. I personally follow the rule of maximum 30 per week so it looks more natural. Tools You can use many tools available online. Although many says they are completely automated, its not. Most directory submissions these days goes through word verifications. Here are some tools you can use: http://www.submithelper.com/ http://www.submiteaze.com/ Directory List You can use the directory list provided by submithelper from the location http://www.submithelper.com/User/User_Directory.aspx Paid versus free When it comes to links, I will take volume over quality any day. Get all the free links you can, then start paying for paid directories from highest to lowest cost. You always have to look at it from a cost benefit basis, and a lot depends on the size of your budget. A few hundred directories charge less than $15 a year, while several others charge almost $300. However you look at it, it pays to "go with the free." SOURCE: http://www.cosmocentral.com/post/200...ink-Juice.aspx
