Default Nestacpe Navigator killed off

If anybody didn't realise AOL have announced the they are stopping patches, updates, and support for Netscape Navigator from 1 February 2008.

Navigator was the main browser in the mid 90's until Microsoft got in on the act. Netscape usage has dwindled in favour of Internet Explorer and Firefox over the past few years and has an very low market share.

Goodbye Navigator...

survival of the fittest ... Microsoft started killing it and Firefox just hummered the last nail in the coffin.

Bye Bye NN!

It amazes me that anyone's still using NN... I haven't seen ot for years.
I guess there's only room for so many browsers in the world.
Anyone use Opera these days?

Your right temi, AOL probably wanted to kill of NN some time ago. The usage of NN has declined over the years, I read about an estimate a few months ago that only 0.6% of accesses to the net was by NN.

I have one client that swears by Opera, I only use is to test out pages.

People thought when AOL bought netscape, they were going to use it to power AOL software, instead, they continue to us IE. If you do not have confidence in your won product, how can you expect 3rd party to?

A lot of the Opera hits I see in my server logs are from eastern europe. I've seen that trend on multiple sites I run bit Opera usually runs a distant third behind IE and FF.

Exactly...And what's a shame, Netscape was a good solid browser, unlike IE...

That's been the main problem, very few people used it recently.

I use opera most of the time. Netscape navigator actually seems to use the firefox engine from what I can tell, so they never really a seperate browser.
