This used to be one of the best communities around. So what happened?
We still have some good members backed up by some great admin so we can recover this.
Remeber, help and support other members.
Give rep where its due.
Post informatively.

Lets make iWT Great again

Thanks Midi...I think so too....I have been chewing on some ideas that I think are going to help improve iwebtool 1000%... I'll bring them up in the Admin panel once I get them worked out in my mind a little more.

I've been away from the forum for a few weeks now due to other pressures, and the forum doesn't seem as busy or vibrant as it was, or is just my perception.

Alright I'll give my opinion on why I think it's popularity may have decreased:

-Reputation = It hardly seems like a factor anymore. Only a select few have more than one or two bars, and there isn't much altering power amongst the members. I've been here almost a year and have over 200 posts. Yet my rep altering power is only 1 pt. Others may not even know how to give rep. I created a thread over at vbulletin.org that could help forum members give rep easier (although still no coding verification on it):
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=163038

-No vbSEO = Many good forums out there also use this tool, it offers great forum URL's and probably increases SE crawl rates, URL rewrites, and the like.

(EDIT: Actually, I just noticed in the copyright info, it mentions vbSEO, but I don't see any of the effects it may be having on the forums.)

-Threads closing after 30 days = I find this to be an extreme turnoff. Especially when asking for site reviews, I might make a small change to a thread. Or what if someone found the answer to a question, but it was after 32 days? The thread starter just missed out on an opportunity.

-No Who's Online = This could give users a better understanding of how busy the community may be.

-IWT Architecture = One final note here, I feel that there are some areas where the hierarchy of the forums could use improvement.

Some interesting points raised there jamestl2.
I like the one regarding the reputation, and I agree its an area that has not been used as much as it should be. Tell me did you ever get that mod you wanted sorted yet?

Can you expalin more what improvenets you refer to

Sort of,
Theoretically, it already works. But I just haven't tested it yet. I was waiting to see if a coding expert could verify if everything was correct over there.

As some of you may already know, I am also a member of Webmaster-Talk. I basically reorganized the entire forum architecture for them, here:
http://www.webmaster-talk.com/genera...hierarchy.html

What I'd probably do here is something similar. Just play with some forums around and see what the community would think (as I did over there).

It would be interesting to see what you come up with. If you have time.
I would suggest staring a new thread for it, I will sticky it and we can see what the general opinion is.

Thanks for the post James....iWebTool is run from a windows server, so URL rewrites aren't an option, that's why VBSEO doesn't make much difference.

I've made it so that threads no longer close.....I never really understood why it was that way to start with...

There are too many to try to open manually....If you find one that you want re opened, let me or Midi or Bagi know, and we can open it for you.

Have you made some changes already. Just been into the USER CP and I can now see a lot more sources of the rep I've been privelidged to receive than I used to, and my rep power is up. More information is good!

Yeah, I made more previous reps visible. I also changed the way voting power is given out. You'll notice that you can give more reps to fewer people...And your voting power will increase more often.
