Linkbait, is good or not?

Well I have read it an article on seochat about link bait, my question to you is what you think about link bait, is it good for your site or not, some say it is some say is not....
what is the risk here?

according from the link provided by alemcherry linkbaiting doesn't have to be a bad thing - It also says that theres a lot of way of doing it.

Link bait gives you a tons of traffic if you done it right.

Get away with rehashed content, adding a good amount of multimedia to your site, to link site from a top niche site and another is trying out a contest.

Link bait is a good source of backlinks as it naturally attract backlinks,. It can also provide you a volume of traffic,.

But I had read some article that Black Hat, can be consider as black hat

It depends on the content in question and the intention behind it - but one advantage with social linking and meritocracy based sites is that the dull and unworthy content generally sinks to the bottom, and of course the good, well crafted stuff will float to the top. So content is still king!

link bait is good if this is properly done..
it will increase your pagerank indirectly as well as your traffic..

Link Baiting is good because it develops incoming links to your site and that's an automatic traffic to your site..This will also help you gain high ranking..

Of course, that depends on the content in question and the intention behind it - but one advantage with social linking and meritocracy based sites is that the dull, spammy and unworthy content generally sinks to the bottom, leaving the good, well crafted stuff to float to the top. So this should be a clear message to all webmasters out there: content is still king, and if you write for your visitors and provide them with great content, you might just be rewarded (with perhaps a little element of promotion and submission to get the ball rolling) with the traffic you deserve. the power of the social internet is quite overwhelming should you be picked up by a large site.

the good thing in link baiting is that you can gain backlinks and traffic...so you must provide also a fresh and quality content...link baiting were usually done in blogs...

Yup, you're definitely right.....anyway for me link baiting is a good thing...
