Default Why submit to a Bid Directory???

The internet seems to becoming awash with "bid directories".
So why, i ask myself, with the millions of free directories, would you pay $1 or so to be listed?
We also have the debate over Googles view on paid links, will you get penalised?

Ok you can pay more and get listed on the homepage as the highest bidder...woopee...better to do a decent link exchange with a related site surley!

Views?

I don't agree with Bid directories. The theory behind them is that you are going to be including in a more quality driven web directory; A directory that actually spends time editing your link and actually reviewing them. It's bull for about 80% (thats probably being modest). Most of these guys auto approve their links and go on, watching their money pile up. I have seen some directories though that a bid might be worth a shot, I even saw one where an Online Casino was bidding 7,000 to be listed and the PR of the directory itself was only 1. So, I guess as they always say there is a sucker born every minute.

Bid directories sell page rank to the highest bidder to the people who have no time and lots of spare money to spend on such things.

HI

Most bidding directory links are permanent so depending on the PR and Backlinks of the directory and the price you are paying... you need to work out if it is worth it..

Look at it like this... say you buy a link in a bidding directory for $5 and it stays online for 3 years and you get 100 visitors per year from that directory... that means 300 visitors in 3 years for example.

You are paying 0.016 per visitor.... now if you can not convert 1 visitor out of 300 in to more then $5 then do not buy a link in a bidding directory...

Now what if the directory is online for 5 year or more and you get more then 100 visitors per year from your $5 paid listing..

Well hope this helps.

Thanks

I think you will find it is a rare thing to get "human" visits from directories. more so it will be spiders crawling that gets your traffic.

Basically I don't belive in the general bidding directories, since they are often crowded with gambling and adult related websites, which ruin the attracting capability in my opinion, but I do belive in niche bidding directories.. Unfortunatly I haven't seen any so far.

I have never paid for a link, and never will. Why bid for a position in a directory. From what I have seen of bidding directories they are full of poor quality sites and as Bagi indicated gambling and adult sites. I just don't believe in bidding directories.

Would you not pay for a link if you knew it would bring you some decent traffic?

I would not pay for a simple link, but I will be using some targeted advertising soon, some of which I know will cost.
