Default Displaying low membership in forums.

Imagine you enter a discussion forum that is brand new and still has low membership, (say, less than 100.) Do you think displaying the number of registered members is an asset or a liability? Are people more eager to join a small community or a larger one?

When i join a board i don't pay attention to the members ..

I will read a few of the admins posts along with the moderators to try to get a feel of what their about.

Then if i feel i can contribute i will join

you can have 1 active member and 10,000 registered members and
If the board does not look active i wont join it

I think showing off registered members is somewhat like a bling bling

I don't really pay attention. I'd say the amount of posts/contribution going on by members is probably more important. If no one is talking, then I usually don't hang around unless there are specific topics I want to raise or I'm interested in on there.

Me, I´m always paying attention on this... If I find there´s a small amount of members, topics and posts are made by paid posters (you can see it very quickly), I´m not very eager to join...

If you've got thousands of members then it might be good to boast about it, but I don't think its much help to say No. of members = 56. The only good thing is to encourage existing founder members to stay if they can see it growing... by regulars will gauge that anyway by the number of posts.

Dont judge a Forum by its numbers, judge by the quality of the posts and the community spirit,a Form that has 10,000 members and very active can be filled with utter rubish.
