Default Giving Something Away

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to share my advice.

We have had our website online for three months (new verison).

Sign ups have been slow but ok.

When I first came onboard this company after 5 years with another, I couldnt emphasis enough how we needed to give something away to make people want to register.

So, I got them to write a free investment guide.

I pre-released this today, to our mailing list, two hours later 20 people have signed up, and I full expect this to hit 100 by the end of next week.

So, imagine when it is live on the site, how dramatically sign ups will increase.

I know I am stating the obvious, but if you are looking for people to register with you, give them a reason to, its a simple thing, but often overlooked.

That's a very good point Spency - most people are driven by wiifm (what's in it for me?). A free e-guide is a good starting point; cheap to produce, but of genuine value to the recipient.

Hi,

Thanks that is a good tip, but one small point

If you need to offer an incentive for people to sign up, doesn't that mean that the thing they are signing up for isn't worth signing up for? Hence the need to bribe them to sign up!

Gary

For some maybe yes.

But for us, we are in a position of not having as much stock as we need, so people coming to the site do not see enough properties to warrant signing up.

By offering the free guide, they do sign up and therefore when we get more properties, we have immiedate points of call, which is vital for us as we have to shift stock quickly with some deals.

2 years ago, people signed up for anything, but now I feel to get their name you need to give them something.

It is like a newspaper selling itself for a week at 1/4 price, you know your product is good enough that once people see this, they will then pay full price for ever after.
