Default Optimizing your site???

As a new guy to all this

I see alot of posts that say I am concentrating on Msn or yahoo or Google etc etc

And then a reply comes back that everyone should optimize for all the search engines and not just say Google for example.

Is there different methods to getter better results for each search engine

If so what are the best methods? For each engine and to get all 3 together.

There are some differences. But to mention Google gives most traffic of all the search engines. So people generally put more effort optimizing for google.
As an example meta keywords are of little importance to Google, whereas its quite important on Yahoo and some other search engines.

Inbound links are what you need to concentrate on to gain traffic from any of the 3 major SE's....Google pays a lot of attention to anchor text, Yahoo to sites title, relevance, and content...MSN, I don't know. It's important that you optimize everywhere you can so that you can get the best results from all SE's.

Thanks Guys I think i need to check my meta keywords.
Is it better to use a small amount? Or to use every keyword that you wish to get seen in results for.

It doesn't really matter how many keywords you use, the SE's don't use them to determine SERPs anymore. It has been recommended that you don't use any more than 20 or 30 though, if you decide to.

thanks Jumpenjuhosaphat.

I have only 10 as some site i was on had a meta keyword checker and said that it was best to have 10.

But if you think 20 or 30 i will give that a try so as to add more

I was checking yahoo for some keywords i am trying for and some were great

Neapolitan mastiff photos i am number 1
forum i am number 3
health i am number 4
litters i am number 1
information i am number 3
videos i am number 2 video 2
artificial insemination number 4

for neapolitan mastiff on its own number 17

on msn Live search
Neapolitan mastiff photos i am number 7
forum i am number 3
health i am number 6
litters i am number 9
information i am number 7
videos i am number 9 video 3
artificial insemination number not in top 50

for neapolitan mastiff on its own number 8

for google

Neapolitan mastiff photos i am number 13 +14
forum i am number 9+10
health i am number 11 (my other site appears at 10)
litters i am number 29+30(my other site at 15)
information i am number 11
videos i am number 12+13 video 9
artificial insemination number 5

for neapolitan mastiff on its own number 500 or thereabouts

Seems as everyone says Google is the hardest. I had only been checking google but seems that the other 2 have been ok

I am especially pleased at the msn live search result for Neapolitan Mastiff on its own being 8 so i am on the first page and as for the yahoo being 17 and page 2 i have less work there than google which is like 500 odd in the results

You should also take a look at the tool at overture...It might help you get a few more ideas for keywords and key phrases....You can find it at http://inventory.overture.com

Sometimes the tool works, sometimes it doesn't, you'll have to keep trying if you can't access the page....They are getting rid of it, so if you are going to use it, I think you should do it soon.

Google, Yahoo and MSN are the major search engines but you should prioritize on Google. The three search engines has different algorithm, techniques and guidelines on how to rank or to position your keywords. You are right, first is to do the on-page factor such as you need to optimize your site by adding your targeted keywords , by using the keywords seo tools and adding it in your meta tags. The other factor is the off-page or through link building and submission of your link.

Its more easy to rank in Google than Yahoo and MSN,.
Three major SE uses different algorithm.,
Its much better to rank among the three SE as an organic traffic is more good than a referring site,.

Why is it that it is too hard to rank in Yahoo and MSN?
Aside from they are using different algorithm.
