A well ranking page can bring in large profits for a long time to come....

Hi

All pretty vague and somthing we already know, pagerank has nothing to do with exchanging links with relevant sites anyhow so i dunno why hes put that and common sense would tell u that more links on the site thats linking to you the less pr will be passed to your site.

You should not care that much about your pagerank

link exchanges have helped me with my SERPs
and that is all that matters to me

relevant link exchanges are better than non related link exchanges

The biggest benefit of using PageRank doesn't come in at the ranking step, it comes in at the document retrieval stage, when you're trying to decide which of 27,438,902 documents that matched the query text are actually worth ranking. The search engine's job at the retrieval stage is to pick 1,000 documents to rank, without losing any really important documents.

PageRank excels at this. In fact, PageRank's role in the retrieval process is why Google's "Supplemental Index" exists. When they created the SI, they recognized that some documents had such low PageRank that they were unlikely to make the cut for most search queries. Those documents live in the supplemental index.

Maintaining a smaller main index improved the speed of document retrieval, and if they couldn't get 1000 results from the main index, they could always go dip into the supplemental index to get more documents. Google didn't run out of "document ID numbers" for the main index , they did it to improve performance.

As others mentioned page rank is more like a status symbol. Rather try to drive traffic to your site.

As long as the link exchange is relevant, ie your linking property site A to property site b and not property site a to gambling site b, then it is still work recip linking.

So far Google has not come down hard on this. They have sounded that link exchange is not good.

We should not assume that everybody reading these threads know the basics, we have all seen the 'what is PR' 'what is a backlink' questions etc etc. Many people joining this and other seo related forums are starting from the bottom and need such info to be at hand
