I think that you also can get it as a bonus from the web hosting company you purchase web hosting account from.

I'm sure you can get it for free from someone or from a host with a free package, I know Webhostingbuzz.com gives free domains in their plans.
The cheapest .com domain I know of is that in EuroDNS.com deals.

You can register a FREE .com for one year @ Register.com... they are ofering the domain for the first year...

I recommend you pay for it Even if someone give you one for free, make sure that it is completely under your name. Once you create the site and get few backlinks, the value of the domain name is many times the registration amount you pay.
