![]() | To be honest non of them are much good I find, I personally think your better of doing it manually. link:www.yourdomain.here for Yahoo and Google and then +link:www.yourdomain.here for MSN |

![]() | Thanks for that one. The worry I now have is that Yahoo shows 47 but is missing a number of links that I know are there for 3 weeks or more and google returns no results at all. Its really frustrating. Everywhere you look you are told that backlinks (inlinks) are the key to moving up the search engine lists. We are told oneway links are best, paid for links are not as good as free ones and so on and so on. So you sit there manually submitting your site to directories etc and getting confirmation that your site has been accepted. Great you think and you go and check and there it is for all to see yet if google and yahoo are not picking it up whats the point Ok, rant over Am I getting something wrong here? ![]()

Google does not like any links - in my opinion - that are not honest but hates more the paid ones because they could have been getting these money in their ADWORDS program read more here http://www.seobook.com/archives/002163.shtml But any link that could potentially manipulate their SERPS could be devalued eventually. But don't worry Google is not after the small directories, you are safer there. And your links are going to be eventually seen ... and just because link:domain.com is 0 it does not mean that Google has not actually seen any links. Google usually tells you only 10% of the links you have ... Google roughly knows what yahoo knows, yes yahoo is that good ...

![]() | I find it seems to be a while before they start to appear anyways. It all depends on when the spiders crawl the page where your link has been placed. I was showing on the Iwebtool backlink checking tool 397 for weeks and then it jumped to 800 odds and i have not added any for about a month or so. Google showed 1 but when i looked it was none LOL and yahoo 47 and msn none available |

![]() | Thanks for the encouraging info guys. I guess I was just getting a bit tired and emotional. Took a break from submitting to directories and went out for some air and feel much better now. I am also starting to think about some articles to place on some of the article directories but will get some sleep first. Thanks

![]() | Firstly never ever take a blid bit of notice what Google says you inbound links are they dont list any of them hardly you can have thousands and thousands and Google can say you have like 50. As for the other search engines showing your inbound links, links from directorys can take ages to be shown up by the search engines as the pages your added to are normaly not considered important by the search engines. Even the big directorys which are crawled often can take a while sometimes as they have so many pages to crawl, but the smaller fre directorys dont get crawled as often so expect along wait. Only pages of high importance, or which have changes made regular are crawled often the others can take abit longer, so dont panic. Fre directory submissions are an easy way to get a lot of free links but dont just do free directory submissions though, this alone will get you nowhere, you should also be looking at articles either adding them to your site and bookmarking them in social bookmark websites or submitting them to article directorys. Also dont be put of totally about buying links this is still the most effective way of getting links if done the right way, you need to make private deals though dont just go to some website and purchase aload of links cos genrally it wont work as the search engines know the sites. |

![]() | Yea, sometimes I check manually and get different results from the tools; it can be awkward at times. I think it may depend from site2site also. |

![]() | Some really useful stuff here for noob like me, big thanks to you all. I ran a backlink check today and links are now starting to show up so things looking up. Certainly one way links seem to be important which is why I try to submit to a few directories each day, but I am also adding new content regularly and am looking at submiting articles to some of the article directories as well. I will almost certainly have some reciprocal links but want to ensure that the sites I exchange with are complimentary to my own so that the links have some relevence to my visitors. I am also starting to send e-cards from the site to everyone I know to get some traffic through the site and am investigating options for offline marketing too. Hopefully if I can get some people to sign up and start using the forum this will also show as new content. Thanks again for the info and the encouragement
