Loose the yellow, its not good on the eyes.

Best advice I can give you is drop alot of the categories that you have, there are far too many and even as you start to get posts it makes the foum look empty,beleive me that puts off potential new members.
You can always add more later as you get busy and transfer posts if you need to.
The left columb needs utalising, there are loads of "mods" you can get to do this easily.You can either use it for advertising space or "latest posts" etc...etc. its up to you.

I absolutely agree with midi; you need to start small and grow.

With that number of categories, how are you ever going to get it started? It will always look 'empty' and people won't join. However, if you have a small number of categories taht look 'busy' then people might join and you can add new categories as required...

PS: Hasan has a point.
