A page has been dropped from page 4 to page 16 suddenly

Can anyone tell me why it might have happened?

I put up this page about 8 weeks ago, having noticed that many people use the search term "Scottish Tourist Board" without huge competition.

(The Scottish Tourist Board is the parent of VisitScotland which is the trading name.)

It went to page 5 then page 4 when it was indexed. Now it has been popped down to page 16. Useless there, I'll have to alter the strategy. The page has featured quite well as an entry page probably fourth best page.

I have not changed anything, honest guv' it wasn't me.

ps VisitScotland can't have done anything to cause it could they? They carpet bomb all the search terms with their different sites. Starbucks marketing. I'm not paranoid but they might be trying to get me.

I think its what people call the google dance

I am not sure the term is right but, google does this for new sites
and new pages. It changes their SERP position quite often if they are
roughly less than a year old.

I think its testing the waters to see if its worth to be on the 4th page
and in due time it will go where google thinks it deserves to be ...

in the meantime you can try and influence google's decision with quality backlinks to it ... try announcing it in squidoo.com ... and other places

I learn so much from you guys - I reckon most small webmasters don't know a quarter of this stuff from what I see frrom their sites. Maybe some of the big ones, too.

I was only mentioning squidoo, because its an easy way to post anything and include links as you wish .... other places that allow links will also be helpful.

And that is all squidoo is ... a place for people to put anything the want on. I should also mention that they share ad revenue with the owner of the page but don't expect much (I have gotten around $5 in a matter of a year)

It is common for pages to go into Googles index only to drop within a few weeks.
This could be beacuse it was not fully evaluated when it forst went into the index.
A drop from 4 to 16 is not bad though for a new page that I presume has no links to it except from within.
i would imagine a few good links will get that page back up there.

Hi, Giorgosk.
Your sites are nice and clean and very easy to navigate. We don't do any reciprocals any more, we put in no follow links (and tell them of course).
We just do forum links, blog links - we have about four blogs - and article links, and links for the purpose of referrals.
