Default Getting started with PR

Hi,

I'm involved in a quite a new website that is active and has lots of good content, we attracted 600 members in just about 3 months. Compared to similiar sites we have much more content and more activity.
However we have a PR 0, where similiar sites (longer established) with less content have a PR of 4 or 5.

What is the steps to get the PR up? Will it just happen in time? I noticed the google bot comes and visits but as yet, it's of no use because we don't get any google traffic. We do however get traffic from MSN.

Should we be aiming to get the PR or the Alexa ranking higher? Or both?
How would we go about either?

Replies welcome!

Thanks
epro

To get PageRank up, you need websites to link to you. The more PR websites link to you, the more PR you recieve. It works through link vote. Find out more here:

I hope this reply helps.

kenni thank you!

Most useful already. There are several places that are willing to link but of low value for example with a PR of 1.

If I was to link from 10 pages with PR1 would that be as good as one page with PR10? Do you follow, what is the trade off of quantity versus quality?

Also If I have five PR3 pages from one domain. Would that be the same as five PR3 page but each page from five seperate domains?

BTW I just found out the site I'm involved with has a rating of PR3 internally, but the root domain has a rating of PR0. I'm kinda happier now, PR3 is way way much better then PR0!!! There is not an icon to show my joy ..

thanks

My page www.kitoks.com has PR4 now. PR prediction shows that my pagerank will be 5 ( 4.9 ). An interesting thing that i could't increase pagerank more than 4.9 . I had PR4, added some links and got PR4.4, than added some more links and got PR 4.9. Than i added a lot of links, but my pagerank is still 4.9. Why? Why 4.9 is my max line?
I got the same and with other page.

10 PR1 pages isn't equivalent to a PR10 page. It works more of a point system. The points are placed like this:

PR1 = 10 points
PR2 = 100 points
PR3 = 1000 points
PR4 = 10000 points
PR5 = 100000 points
PR6 = 1000000 points
PR7 = 10000000 points
PR8 = 100000000 points
PR9 = 1000000000 points
PR10 = 10000000000 points

(The above is an example of how it works -- it isn't the exact figures)

So, as you can see, 10 PR1 pages will be equivalent to 100 points which is a PR2. 10 PR2's will make a PR3, and so on. Another thing you will have to take in consideration is the quantity of links on a page. If a page that has a PR5 links to you along with other 9 different websites on the same page, then the PR5 will share between the other 9 websites which may give you only 0.5PR.

I hope this explains.

Why do you not list google/DMOZ directory?
Also you say free, but not my experience! When did you last check the list?
