All,

I've just been setting up a new website called www.homecontrast.com. This site sells uncommon home accessories in the UK.

We've spent a long time on the design of the website and we're reasonanbly happy with it now. There have been a few comments about the flash slideshow on the frontpage which doesn't seem to work for everyone. It would be good to know if any of you have any issues.

Excellent Website, nice design, great navigation. Just 1 remarks, you URLs are not SE friendly. I'm not sure if you can make SE friendly with asp.

SE friendly URL will look - www.abcd.com/xyz instead of www.abcd.com/page.php?p=xyz.

Thanks for the feed back it's good to hear that I'm not miles off with my design!

I've been looking at URL rewriting for IIS/ASP hosted pages and it can be done but only with a plugin to IIS. Unfortunately, my webhost does not support any URL rewriting plugins and so I think I'm stuck. I'm not really keen to go a rewrite everything in PHP now just so I can use Apache and .htaccess files.

Any advice on ASP rewriting without plugins would be very useful.

nice layout, very easy to navigate. I am not a lover of black on websites but it seems to work well.
Only one thing i would say though. As good as the changing image on the homepage is,when a visitor arrives there is nothing to say what the website is about. I would maybe reduce the size of the flash image and include some welcome/explanatory text,of course including some good keywords.

Thanks for the comments so far.

I've spent the afternoon working our how to do Url rewriting without being able to install any code on the shared hosts and only having ASP.OLD. It's hard work but I think I've managed it now. As a programmer I don't like having to use the error pages as part of the standard method for posting requests - but there seems little alternative.

Midlandi, Skinner I take your point about there needing to be a bit of text on the front page explaining what Home Contrast is all about. I need to work out a way of doing it without losing the 'clean' look.

Enough programming for today - I'll work that out another time!

Just one thing from myside....I am not going to say that you need to delete the big flash from your index page, it looks good. But you really need to check that if you use flash (means big as that of yours), the page should not have scroll. It will make bad impression to users.

However, I would suggest you to put something on the home page like a welcome text or something explaing about your site with good Keywords.

That's a really well thought out and well designed website, congrats.
My only comment would be that I would prefer to see all the images of a single category on one page without having to select "next" if possible?
